Abstract
This report characterizes and estimates the volume of “wood waste” produced yearly within the
Mohawk Trail Woodlands Partnership. “Wood waste” is defined as woody material that cannot
be left in place, causing a disposal challenge. Several potential future uses are recommended,
including wood heating, composting, and wood fiber insulation.

Note: The term “waste” is representative of certain cultural beliefs concerning the natural world and can be offensive to cultures that consider all parts of a tree to be important and sacred. Language is a crucial way in which we understand/misunderstand. It is our hope that this term, though it may be lacking in some ways, will result in respectful utilization.
